Rainbird 5000 not rotating?

The rainbird company and sprinkler professionals recommend that when a rainbird 5000 rotating sprinkler head stops rotating that it has reached the end of its expected and designed lifetime and that it should be replaced.  These sprinklers are not designed to be repaired when and if the gears become stripped.

I had three rainbird 5000 rotating sprinklers that had stopped rotating.  Instead of replacing the heads, I fixed 2/3 by tapping/light striking on the head with a rubber mallot while the sprinkler was in operation.  2/3 sprinklers rotate perfectly again.  The third ratates intermittently.

Russia Begins Airstrikes in Syria

I am no fan of President Vladimir Putin of Russia.  But the US is in an awkward situation in Syria.  Syria was named by President Bush as part of the "Axis of Evil" after 911 and a "state sponsor of terrorism".  Since that time it is no secret that Israel and the US were interested in removal of the Assad regime. 

In 2013, the US began arming the "Syrian Free Army" via Croatia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The US wished to support the "moderate rebels" in Syria who were to remove President Assad from power.  Instead, much of the arms somehow fell into the hands of more radical extremists groups in Syria such as al Qaeda, al Nusra, and ISIS/ISIL.  

Now the US is faced with a monster of its own creation in Syria.  ISIS has taken control of Eastern Syria and Western Iraq and created a huge humanitarian disaster displacing millions of regular everyday Muslims.  Now millions of Muslims are in refugee camps in Lebanon and flooding into Europe and the US to escape ISIS brutality.

The US has launched a military campaign against ISIS which has been largely ineffective. With all our satellite capability, drones, and smart bombs we gave thus far been unable to make gains against ISIS or Assad. No suprise that President Putin wonders if we have really been trying.

True or false, President Putin has expressed his belief that the US is secretly supporting ISIS to destabilize Syria and as a backdoor to remove Assad.  The US had been preparing for direct millitary action on Syria until Secretary Kerry suggested that Assad could avoid war by voluntarily giving up his chemical weaoons to an internatiinal body. Assad with Russia's help accepted, frustrating US plans. 

The US has also said it supports regional governments to help address these issues like Russia and China.  So, since the US has been ineffectual against ISIS, Russia moved aircraft and personnel into Syria to combat ISIS. Shouldn't the US be happy to work along side Russia?

Well, turns out that the US government is not happy about Russian involvememt in Syria. Russia has started airstrikes but the US says that Russia is nir atracking the correct targets. According to the US, Russia is hitting weapons depots of the "moderate rebels" and not ISIS and that Russia looks to be fighting to keep Assad in power than defeat ISIS. 

US officials also warn that Russia now needs to worry about ISIS terrorism in Russia because they have come out against ISIS.  This situation is danferous for the US because, if any ISIS-sponsored terrorism attack were to occur in Russia, true or false, Pres. Putin believes the US secretly is supporting ISIS like the Chechen Rebels and may blame the US for any ISIS attack.

Dazzler in the ED

The Emergency Department may represent an appropriate setting for the non-lethal Dazzler technology.  Public Safety routinely delivers drug intoxicated and mentally agitated patients to Emergency Department for medical clearance.  Many of these agitated patients pose an immediate threat to themselves and staff.  Aggressive patients routinely physically attack staff and can cause injury to themselves.

Emergency physicians have to medical responsibility to both physically and chemically restrain the agitated patient who posses an eminent physical threat to themselves and staff.  While ED physicians have access to powerful drugs that can tranquilize and even paralyze an abusive, agitated patient, chemical restraint first requires physical restraint.  You can't give an acutely agitated patient a sedation shot without his being first physically restrained.  The ED does not use dart guns or blow darts. 

Physical restraint involves placement of soft leather or thick canvas restraints on wrists and ankles. To place these restraints on the patient safely requires 4-6 hospital security personnel to tackle the patient and physically hold them down while the restraints are being placed. In some cases, County Sheriffs Deputies have used Pepper Spray or a Taser in the ED.  

Pepper Spray is terrible and should never be used in the ED for any reason.  The ED is not well ventilated and the pepper spray will affect other patients and staff.

Taser, has the potential for injury because the  patient loses voluntary control of muscles and can be injured in the fall. 

Dazzler, may be an effective tool for ED staff to incapacitate a patient allowing them to be safely physically and chemically sedated with minimal harm to the patients and staff.

China Feigns Weakness

Bill Gertz reports on a book by Michael Pillsbury’s, "The Hundred Year Marathon", which reveals new details of covert support for China, along with a continuing flow of U.S. technology and intelligence for the past 45 years.  Michael Pillsbury is a longtime Pentagon China analyst who has worked on China policy and intelligence issues for every U.S. administration since Richard Nixon.

For more than four decades, Chinese leaders lulled presidents, cabinet secretaries, and other government analysts and policymakers into falsely assessing China as a benign power deserving of U.S. support.  The secret strategy, based on ancient Chinese statecraft, produced a large-scale transfer of cash, technology, and expertise that bolstered military and Communist Party “superhawks” in China who are now taking steps to catch up to and ultimately surpass the United States. 

The Chinese strategy also is aimed at gaining global economic dominance, he says, noting that China’s military buildup is but one part. The combined economic, political, and military power is seeking to produce China as a new global “hegemon” that will export its anti-democratic political system and predatory economic practices around the world.

The world economy is currently set up under the Bretton Woods Agreement to benefit America with the promise that America would help the Third World develop. Instead of helping the Third Word, many in China believe America has instead exploited the Third World for its own gain.  And in China's view, they don't see why the world economy shouldn't be set up to benefit China instead of America especially if the Americans are too fat and stupid to notice let alone do anything to stop them.
