Comet Elenin C/2010 X1

Nasa and JPL are tracking an interesting comet that is coming into our solar system. Comets come and go all the time. However, not since Shoemaker-Levi 9 slammed into Jupiter 1994 has there been more interest in a comet. So, far this obscure comet, which was discovered by Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin, is very difficult to see. What initially got people interested is that the Earth on about November will pass through the dust tail of this comet. This event has the potential to produce a lightshow akin to "the Great 1833 Leonids Meteor Shower" where 100,000 falling stars per hour were recorded. According to Wiki, this meteor shower was interpreted as a sign to expel Mormons/LDS from Missouri. LDS are hoping history doesn't repeat itself and people interpret this sign differently.

However, what's got everyone interested now is that the last 3 times this comet has been in alignment with the Earth and Sun, there is been a major Earthquake. These alignment-earthquakes include Chile, Christchurch, and the most recent Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. The link above is to a respected peer-reviewed astrophysics journal. The significance of these alignment-earthquakes, is that some believe it possible that Elenin may not be a comet at all. If Elenin is causing serious gravitational effects on Earth, then Elenin could be a massive planet or brown dwarf.

The only reason I give this theory any type of attention, is that President Joseph Smith, said that a great sign of the Second Coming would be "The Sign of the Son of Man".

"There will be wars and rumors of wars, signs in the heavens above and on the earth beneath, the sun turned into darkness and the moon to blood, earthquakes in divers places, the seas heaving themselves beyond their bounds; then will appear one grand sign of the Son of Man in heaven. But what will the world do? They will say it is a planet, a comet, etc. But the Son of Man will come as the sign of the coming of the Son of Man, which will be as the light of the morning cometh out of the east [see Joseph Smith - Matthew 1:26]."

So, could Elenin be this Sign of the Son of Man? I am not sure. So, far Elenin doesn't fit the bill because we can't see it and Joseph Smith said that when the real sign appears, all the people of the Earth will be able to see it. However,this Elenin object is still aways off but approaching quickly. Key dates are Sept 11, when Elenin will be closest to the Sun, and Sept 27, when there is another Earth-Elenin-Sun alignment. Then later the Earth will pass through it dust tail about the end of October. Another alignment similar to what occurred on the day of the Japan Tsunami will occur in mid-November.

What adds to the oddity of this comet Elenin, is that conspiracy theorists have always been taking about some kind of Planet X, or Nibiru, Marduk coming into the solar system causing a magnetic pole shift on Earth and massive Earth-changes and devastation. I always thought this sort of things was crazy, but maybe not so much. It was believed that about the time of the Tower of Babel, that planet X passed through the solar system resulting in the scattering of the people of Babylon.

Another far-out interpretation of this whole business is that this whole thing with Elenin is contrived or over-hyped. Conspiracy theorists had been concerned with the possible use of tectonic earthquake weapons. HAARP is a massive system of phase-array microwave antennas in Alaska that has the ability to focus a billion watts of power on any point on, below, or above the Earth. The idea is that heating the ionosphere could strengthen and partially steer hurricanes, and nor'easters. Heating below ground could trigger EQs on faults which already have energy stored up on them. And in addition to the eleinin-sun-earth alignment on the day of the Japan EQ, environmental papers have recorded significant, anomalous and pinpoint ionospheric heating the day of the Japan EQ. So, Elenin could be a distraction from HAARP.

Another factor at play is concerning space weapons. It seems to be well accepted that Russia, China, and the US have weaponized space. Popular Science has featured article on space weaponization in the past in an article entitled "Rods from God" If Elenin is some massive brown dwarf star, some believe that this object could be bringing with it a ton of debris and an extensive system of moons. Real or contrived, the concern is that when Eleinin dust, and meteors begin to fall, some of this material might be very large and cause considerable damage. If destructive meteors do begin to fall, it may be very difficult to distinguish between legit Elenin (Eleven-Nine, Extinction-Level-Event, Nibiru in November)
debris vs. space/orbital kinetic weapons.

The other concern is, if Elenin is a massive Brown Dwarf and not just a comet, could it cause a complete magnetic pole shift, or could this thing disrupt the orbit of the Earth or even steel the Earth from its orbit around the Sun. Could there be collisions between Elenin moons and our moon. A similar such collision is believed to have given rise to our solar system's asteroid belt.

My faith is that God has designed this Earth to survive and be the home of its righteous inhabitance forever. Therefore, I don't think it is in the economy of God to destroy the Earth. However, that doesn't mean there couldn't a whole lot of shaking. Scripture fortells the day when the Sun will be darkened, the moon will turn red, and the stars will fall from the skies. Additionally, the Earth will real-to and fro like a drunk man, and the heavens will be drawn together like a scroll. What all that means, I don't know, but I am sure when it happens, we will know it.

The newest thoughts on Elenin are that it is just a normal long-period comet that is not a brown dwarf or massive object at all, but instead will impact the sun due to its charge. Having spent so much time outside the solar system, it is believed the object could electrically influence the sun and earth via its strong electric charge that it has accumulated. Then again, we have seen long period comets before without ascribing much significance to them. If Elenin were a massive object, we would already have expected to see alterations in the orbits of the planets. However, the correlation with Comet Elenin-sun-earth alignments and major EQ's is an interesting one. If there exists EQ technology (HAARP), this correlation could have been engineered to draw attention away from it.
